I Love a Mystery Book Club - Printable Version of Schedule


Mystery readers everywhere are invited to join in the fun.  This a morning book club, meeting at 10:00am for coffee and tea with discussion beginning promptly at 10:15am.  We expect to adjourn in time for lunch, approximately 12:00pm.  Meetings will be held the second Wednesday of each month.  Members of the group take turns leading the discussion or bringing refreshments.  We are interpreting the term Mystery very loosely so we can look at a variety of authors.  Come and bring a friend.  Everyone welcome.  Suggestions encouraged.

January 9, 2013, Laura Lippman, Author Series

Read any title by Laura Lippman.  Lippman, herself a former newspaper reporter, is the author of the Tess Monaghan series of mysteries.   Lippman’s books have won the Agatha, Anthony Edgar, Nero, Gumshoe and Shamus awards.  Her first title to make the New York Times Bestseller List was the 2007 publication, What the Dead Know. Join us for lively discussion.

May 8, 2013, William Kent Krueger, Author Series

Read any title in the Cork O’Conner series.  In 2005 and 2006 he won back to back Anthony Awards for best novel.  His love of the land, respect for Native Americans and sense of honor and duty create a series that is sure to please.  He has also won the Anthony Award, Minnesota Book Award, Loft-McKinght Fiction Award and The Barry Award. June 12, 2013, Donald Bain, Cozy Mystery

Donald Bain writes with Jessica Fletcher of “Murder She Wrote” fame.  Read any title in the Series.  Remember Cabot Cove and Jessica Fletcher played by Angela Lansbury as a mystery writer and amateur detective?  Murder She Wrote aired for 12 seasons and had many nominations for awards.  Enjoy Cabot Cove all over again. Share with the group other books that you have read.

July 10, 2013, Brad Meltzer, Thriller

Inner Circle. In this political thriller with historical-conspiracy overtones, Meltzer creates his most engaging protagonist in years. Beecher White is an archivist with the National Archives, who stumbles upon an old book hidden away in a room used exclusively by the president. Did the president know that the book was there?  Are there people willing to kill to obtain this book?  Beecher’s old girlfriend shows up and wants Beecher to help her find her father.  The twists and turns mount up while Meltzer does an excellent job of putting us in Beecher’s corner and making us care about what happens to him. –Booklist Join us for a lively discussion and lots of laughter!

Norman Colin Dexter is an English writer best known for his crime novels.   He began writing while off on a family holiday on a rainy Saturday.  Those beginning paragraphs featured Inspector Morse who is a testy character who likes cryptic crosswords, English literature, cask ale and often reflects Dexter’s own passions.  Many of his works were make into television segments.  He has received many awards for his writing. –Goodreads.
