Custer Visits Monroe
(Monroe Commercial, September 30, 1875; p.1, c.1)
General Custer arrived in town last Tuesday evening direct from Fort Abraham Lincoln, Dakota. He reports the Indians in that section somewhat troublesome and treacherous. Only a day or two before he left they killed a herder, for or five miles from the fort and drove off 100 head of cattle. The General left yesterday morning for the east and expects soon to return to Monroe for a short visit.
