River Raisin Ice
Monroe Commercial, pg 1, April 27, 1876
Monroe, Jan. 27, 1826.
The river Raisin is now covered with a thick mass of ice, such as has not been witnessed for several years past. It is not probable that colder weather has, for a very long period of time, been known in this vicinity than was experienced on Tuesday of the present week. Most business men were compelled to suspend operation in consequence. In my printing office, boiling water congealed instantly on being applied to the type.
