History of Monroe County.
To the citizens of the city and County of Monroe, Michigan:--The pioneers and first settlers of our city and county have nearly all passed away, and the wish has frequently been expressed that some person would rescue from oblivion the incidents connected with the first settlement of our city and the towns and villages of our country. Having been a resident of the city for the past fifty-seven years, having personally known and conversed with many of the first settlers and survivors of the war of 1812, I have determined to write a history thereof, and have arranged with the well-known firm of Munsell & Co., Publishers, of the City of New York, to publish an elaborate history from the first settlement of the city and county to the present time.
I therefore would be pleased to receive from any person, any manuscripts or communications or mention of any incidents of the early settlement or early settlers of the city and towns of this county with the assurance of the prompt return thereof, if desired.
