A Library Card is your child's ticket to academic achievement!

The Monroe County Library System will soon offer a text message (SMS) alert system for all interested library patrons.

The SMS Alerts service will give patrons the option to receive text messages from the Monroe County Library System on their mobile device. After patrons opt into SMS Alerts, the Monroe County Library System will send text messages to bring an event to their attention, such as an overdue item or a hold ready for pickup.  The service is optional and you can choose to opt out of SMS Alerts at any time.

QA with Jean Alicia Elster

Jean Alicia Elster is the author of the 2014 Michigan Notable Book, The Colored Car. We asked Ms. Elster to share her summer reading list.

  • Do you have any comments about your summer reading list? My summer list is all fiction. I'm trying to cram in as many fiction titles as possible before I start my next writing project.
  • What future projects are you planning? Later this summer I'll start work on the third volume in my fictionalized Ford family saga.
  • Are there any books that have had a major impact on you as a writer? Of course. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Ake: The Years of Childhood by Wole Soyinka, just to name a few.
